Sealing Natural Stone Surfaces - Stain Protection
How To Protect Granite Countertops
You may have questions regarding the proper Care and Protection of Granite Countertops, and sadly, there is a lot of misinformation out there on the internet.
This page will help to answer your questions and provide practical help to eliminate your concerns. There are a few things to keep in mind regarding your Granite Countertops:
GRANITE IS A QUARTZ BASED STONE AND IS ACID RESISTANT
Because of this, you need not worry about lemon juice,
tomato juice and other common household items.
They will not harm or etch Granite. (wipe up spill quickly)
This is NOT the case for Marble or Travertine,
these are calcium based stone and are acid sensitive.
ALMOST ALL GRANITE IS RESIN IMPREGNATED IN THE FACTORY
Decorative Granite slabs are Resined in the Factory. This gives you some protection, but most granite remains porous!
GRANITE DOES NEED TO BE SEALED
Even though most Granite is resin impregnated in the factory,
the process of grinding and polishing open pores.
This grinding and polishing requires that nealy all types of granite
need to be sealed. See here for more information about Resined Slabs.
